The standard's new terminology for protective materials describes the level of barrier protection for barrier gowns and other protective clothing used in healthcare facilities, specifying in detail the test methods and performance results needed to verify and confirm that the protective clothing provides the newly defined level of protection as follows：

-level 1: minimal risk, e.g. for basic care, standard isolation, visitor isolation gowns or standard medical units

-Level 2: Low risk, e.g. for use during blood draws, suturing, intensive care units (ICU) or pathology laboratories

-Level 3: Moderate risk, such as for arterial blood draws, insertion of intravenous (IV) lines, emergency room trauma cases, or caustic chemical experiments

-Level 4: High risk, e.g. for prolonged, high-risk procedures, when pathogen resistance is required or when infectious disease (non-airborne) is suspected When selecting an isolation gown, regardless of how the product is named (isolation gown, surgical gown, lab coat), look for a gown with the required level of protection based on the above risk level.
